I was pleasantly surprised to find this group of photographs and documentary about the wonderful Ink Blot Preserve area. I was especially intrigued by the rather mysterious ecosystem of the Pinus contorta - Pseudotsuga menziesii - Gaultheria shallon association, especially with the Lady Ferns growing in the understory! I don't think I've EVER run across that combination.
While I have not yet visited Ink Blot Preserve, I HAVE been exploring the unnamed bog areas on the Olympic coastal area off of Highway 101, specifically the fine bog about 5 miles north of Humptulips on the left (west) side of the highway, and the superlative bog at Milepost 180 exactly ten miles south of Forks on the right (east) side of the highway.
Thank you for your efforts in posting the images and commentary.
Love your photos from a fellow Joe Rocchio from Rhode Island!
